Book Review: Diary ng Panget

It all started last quarter of 2013 when I was still hooked with Wattpad. I read the story "Diary ng Panget" by HaveYouSeenThisGirL and was entertained by the unique story of an orphaned self-admitted "panget" named Eya, who got a scholarship in a school attended by models. More details of the plot here.

The story was written in a way which used Japanese anime and Korean expressions, mannerisms and emojis (i.e. -_-;, ^_^) . For me, reading it was like reading manga or watching anime or Korean/Japanese Dramas. The way it was written in Taglish (Tagalog and English) and the style is that of a fanfiction writer complete with wrong grammar/spelling, erratic pacing which could give you hives if you're a Nazi XD. But since it was already published into a book, it has since been edited and I'm sure it's much better.

Ignoring the writing style, the story itself was fun and engaging, filled with the funny antics and interaction between the characters Eya and Cross. Eya calls Cross Cookie Monster because he's grumpy. I really liked how Cross transformed from being a selfish brat to a less selfish brat who started to care for Eya.

If you are into cliche anime/k-drama/J-drama inspired stories or plot (Hana Yori Dango, Mischievous Kiss, Dream High anyone?), then you will like this story.

This was also adapted into a movie of the same title directed by Andoy Ranay and starred by Nadine Lustre as Eya Rodriguez and James Reid as Cross Sandford. Also included in the cast are Andre Paras as Chad and Yassi Pressman as Lory.

Here are some pictures/scenes from the movie:

Movie Poster:

When Cross told everyone that Eya is his girlfriend so she, along with her pimples, will be miserable. XD Such a meanie!

Eya taking care of Cross while he's sick.

Eya's reaction when Cross told her she's beautiful. That paper looks tasty.

It's not a James Reid movie without some shirtless scenes. Cross offering Eya Body Heat. More rice please! Eya you lucky girl, you.

LUCKY!!

Got sick the last week of November. The doctor said I had inflamed salivary glands and gave me a week to recuperate. So sad that I wasn't able to attend our year-end party at the Marriott Grand Ballroom.

But then, that week I was out of the office, my teammates messaged me saying I won the raffle. I thought they were kidding until I got back to work and saw the e-mail.

I won a Nikon Turbo Broiler! @_@ OMG I HAVE NEVER WON IN A RAFFLE BEFORE!! I was so happy!

I tried cooking pork belly marinated overnight in a store-brought Hickory Sauce for 15mins at 200°C and it was delish!! @_@

So I searched online for recipes and decided to try chocolate chip cookies as my first attempt to bake using the turbo broiler.

I decided to follow the detailed instructions from Mishee's Foodstuff.

She even posted her trial and error with pictures and also the finished choco chip cookies which looked amazingly crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside.

I'm gonna try to make this tomorrow when I get the ingredients and stuff I need to make this. Stay tuned!
